The NaDia tool coating <\/strong>system has been developed and is manufactured completely in-house at TWT.<\/p>

The aim of the ambitious R&D project started in 2009 by the Zuani company, as it was called then, was to improve the performance of precision tools.<\/p>

In the mechanical sector it was already a well-known fact that coating extends the life of inserts because it provides greater surface hardness.<\/p>

The intuition and then the goal of the research group were directed towards the reduction of the insert\u2019s friction at the cutter\u2019s point of contact, as the main factor for a more durable cutting performance of the inserts.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

After an in-depth experimentation phase preceded by studies and research conducted with the prestigious collaboration of the University of Trento and of FBK, the possibility of significantly extending the life of the insert became reality.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

DLC stands for \u2018Diamond Like Carbon\u2019. It is an extremely interesting carbon-based tool coating <\/strong>with a wide range of applications, thanks to its unique features: low deposition temperature, excellent hardness and low friction coefficient.<\/p>

The tool coating <\/strong>is applied on finished parts, maintaining their state of surface finish. The very high hardness values of the coating derive from the simultaneous presence in the DLC of sp2 (graphite) and sp3 (diamond) hybridised carbon.<\/p>

During machining, as a result of the prolonged contact of the insert with the machined surface, wear phenomena deriving from the mechanical action are triggered.<\/p>

The rounding of the cutting edge, in fact, causes a worsening of the cutting finish and therefore lower quality of the end product.<\/p>

The related consequences are increased motor effort during machining and increased energy absorption.<\/p>

The advantage that the NaDia tool coating <\/strong>gives to the insert is that it significantly slows down all normal wear processes due to machining.<\/p>

In fact, the coating applied acts as a protective shield against damage caused by chemical wear and tear because, when working with materials with a tannic acid content (such as oak), chamfering occurs via both mechanical and chemical action.<\/p>

DLC – Diamond Like Carbon – is deposited using PE-CVD (Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition<\/em>) technology under vacuum and at low temperature.<\/p>
