In June 2023, Falegnameria Abbiati acquired a new machining centre equipped with TWT tools. In this regard, we interviewed Matteo Abbiati, co-owner together with his brother Emanuele, to find out more about the reasons for his choice and the company’s future goals.

Could you briefly introduce your company?

Officially the company was founded in 1961 by my father Bruno Abbiati, although my grandfather was already a carpenter. Then in the late 1990s, my brother Emanuele and I took over the company. My brother takes care of the production aspects, while I follow the commercial aspects.

What are the strengths of Falegnameria Abbiati?

I think there are three main strengths. The first is definitely maintenance of the quality of the materials: we never compromise on this.

The second point is the high customisation of the product: our products are always ‘tailor-made’, no matter whether they are for new constructions and historical restorations.

Finally come the service and the choice of suppliers, who are selected for the quality they can guarantee and not just the price.

What is your market? Who are your customers?

Our main market is Milan and northern Lombardy. Another market we target, although secondary, is the Canton of Ticino, with which we border on.

We are also suppliers of FAI, Fondo Ambiente Italiano, which has allowed us to do prestigious work even outside the region too.

Our customers are mainly private individuals, design studios and architects. We also have a few retailers and a few carpenters bent on having high-level products.

You told me that you deal with both new buildings and historical renovations…

Indeed. We deal with new constructions, proposing windows and doors with a modern design, as well as with historical renovations, proposing windows and doors that, despite being produced with the best modern technologies, maintain the style of period windows. It is a sector, the latter, that we care a great deal about.

After all, there are many late 19th and early 20th century buildings in the centre of Milan. Thanks to our production flexibility, we are able to offer a wide range of solutions.

This flexibility is also due to your machining centres.

For us, flexibility is very important and it is the reason why our machinery, tools and software are made in Italy. This is because I believe that Italian companies are more flexible than foreign ones.

Why did you choose TWT?

I chose TWT as a partner company because I like its way of thinking and of moving in the market. It is a company devoted to quality and innovation that allows us to continue offering a highly customised product.

We have worked a lot with their technical staff. I illustrated our needs and they designed the various solutions. In fact, our company offers a considerable number of models: considering the various types and aesthetic variants, we have up to around twenty models.

Have you also acquired the latest system, namely Esperia Rima?

Yes, I liked it immediately: I think Esperia Rima is a real novelty for this market. Moreover, I often have to do bi-colouring on windows and doors and the Esperia Rima system makes this operation much easier for us.

One last question: how do you see the market today?

In my opinion, the market remains positive when you consistently offer a quality product that meets the specific needs of the customer. I am clearly talking about a high-end market.

Falegnameria Abbiati is located in a quadrilateral area that has Como, Milan, Varese and Lugano as its corners. It is a rich territory, a market that does not only ask for price, but seeks quality, care and customisation. If we can satisfy these demands, our company can only grow.
